About Us
The establishment of the NZMSJ is an initiative of students at the Dunedin School of Medicine, with strong support from the faculty. An editorial board governs the journal, with student and faculty membership. The journal now has a national executive with members from all three University of Otago clinical schools and pre clinical students as well as the University of Auckland Medical School. It is published nationally and is simply based in Dunedin for ease of organisation
The NZMSJ has two primary aims. Firstly, to assist medical students make the transition from writing for medical school to writing as a graduate, by publishing: Quality research already produced by medical students, Case reports, Literature reviews, an other content deemed suitable by the NZMSJ Editorial Board. Our review process provides comprehensive feedback so that students benefit through the process regardless of whether their article makes final publication selection and in doing so are assisted in their learning of good academic writing.
Secondly, the journal aims to publish content that is educational, interesting, readable and presented in a professional manner. In doing so, the NZMSJ hopes to provide medical students with a forum for discussion at a national and international level.
We offer book and cash prizes for the best NZ submissions in each issue however we receive and publish material from medical students worldwide.
