Our workshops are great for finding out what is expected of you at all levels of university study. These workshops are interactive, informal sessions designed to help you discover new techniques and skills to support your study. Whether you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student, we have a wide range of workshops on offer. Search for a specific workshop or browse our selection.
If you are a Christchurch postgraduate student, you will be emailed the details of all Christchurch workshops at the start of each semester. A reminder will be sent a few days before each workshop.
The Postgraduate workshop programme will be open for registrations from mid-January. The Undergraduate semester one workshop programme will be open for registrations from Orientation week. For any questions about our workshop programme please email Student Learning Development Reception
If you are a University of Otago staff member and would like to request a student workshop for your department please contact Student Learning Development Reception.« Back to workshop list
|Workshop Name||Learn more and get better grades with a Growth Mindset|
|About Workshop||If I don’t understand something right away, does it mean that I’m not smart? Are challenge and effort good or bad? Do I believe in the power of “not yet”?
During our workshop, we will explore some of these questions through the lens of the fascinating findings from the research on “mindsets”. We will explore what it means to have a “Growth Mindset” versus a “Fixed Mindset,” and we will consider how the findings relate to learning and achievement. Most importantly, we will investigate how to apply some of the insights from the research and our thinking to our own approaches to learning.
