|Workshop Name||Open Access policy and guidelines: maximising the visibility of and access to your work for the least cost|
|About Workshop||Open access is a fast-moving and complicated aspect of academic publishing. For some years now you’ll have seen terms like ‘APCs,’ ‘Gold,’ ‘Green,’ and ‘Hybrid’ – not to mention being spammed by predatory journals under the guide of open access. This session will explain these terms and more, with a focus on the University’s Open Access policy and guidelines. Together these are designed to assist staff in making choices about open access and maximising the visibility of their work.
Attendees will be encouraged to share their stories and experiences with open access publishing.
Before coming to the session, read the Policy (https://www.otago.ac.nz/administration/policies/otago664881.html) and the associated Guidelines (https://www.otago.ac.nz/administration/policies/otago664883.html). For further reading, a detailed study of staff understanding of and practices in relation to open access was undertaken at Otago in 2015. See: White, R., & Remy, M. (2016). Please note that our seminar room is up a flight of stairs. Please let Candi Young (firstname.lastname@example.org) know if this will cause accessibility issues for you.
