Workshop Name Introduction to tutoring at the University of Otago
About Workshop What happens when you ask a question in a tutorial and you are greeted by an uncomfortable silence? This introductory workshop has been designed to provide support for anyone who is about to take up a position as a tutor within the University. The workshop is designed around the principle of creating an environment that engages students, and it is particularly suited for tutors that wish to use group activities in their sessions.

The session will complement Departmental and College induction/training sessions for tutors. If you are a tutor coordinator in a Department or College, and would like to organise a workshop, please contact Rob Wass (

The aims of this workshop are
a) to provide you with ways to increase student engagement in your tutorials
b) to provide an opportunity for you to think about tutoring and your role as a tutor
c) to provide the foundations upon which you can extend and enhance your teaching knowledge, understandings and skills
d) to raise awareness of the library resources available to you and your students.

Please note that our seminar room is upstairs. If this will create accessibility issues for you, let Candi Young know (
