|Workshop Name||Teaching in a multilingual context: A workshop for tutors|
|About Workshop||Multilingual students studying in a (largely) monolingual university may face specific learning challenges. However, they also bring unique expertise to their studies. In this workshop, we consider specific steps tutors can take to support multilingual students’ learning, while affirming students’ linguistic capability.
By the end of this workshop session, you will have
1. reflected on your own linguistic and learning backgrounds, and how these have shaped your ideas about language, multilingualism, and learning.
2. gained an insight into some specific challenges inherent in studying across languages and knowledge traditions.
3. identified a range of ‘good practice’ strategies for supporting multilingual students’ learning and affirming their linguistic expertise.
