Workshop Name Overcoming learning challenges related to cultural differences
About Workshop Is learning at Otago different from learning in your own culture? Do these cultural differences make learning challenging? Here are two examples from international students:

"In China, the teachers always tell the students what to do, when to do, how to do, everything they will tell us! This is a big difference" (Chinese postgraduate student in a UK university).

"The other students ask many questions and even argue with the professor. I could never do that, because I do not think that is right behaviour" (Thai undergraduate student in an Australian university).

This 2 hour workshop aims to help international students learn more effectively at Otago. We will identify culture-specific learning challenges experienced by Otago students; raise students' awareness of their own cultural perspectives; identify possible tensions with local cultures of learning; and suggest strategies for overcoming the learning challenges of cultural difference.
